The original sera siporax Professional is suitable for use in both freshwater and marine aquariums as well as in ponds. Not depending on the kind of filter (internal/external/trickle filter), it maximizes the surface required for biological purification and provides the optimal substrate for the settling of necessary filter bacteria.

Filter and breakdown processes in the bottom ground of natural waters are very important. Organic waste are processed by micro-organisms and are thus available for the natural cycle as a nutrient for aquatic plants – pollutants such as ammonium, nitrite and nitrate are removed. Since little waste per water amount is formed in nature, the present bottom surface is sufficient for housing a sufficient number of micro-organisms.​However, an aquarium accommodates a small biotope in little space. It is therefore necessary to maximally enlarge the settling area for ensuring complete and safe breakdown of organic remainders.

Unlike other filter rings available on the market, sera siporax consists of sintered glass. The unique material convinces due to a special three-dimensional pore structure. This allows maximum surface increase. At the same time, the fine pores provide ideal settling conditions for bacteria that break down pollutants. Since it is an interconnected system, the bacteria are permanently rinsed by water nd so can break down pollutants with best possible efficiency. Furthermore, the unique pore array allows for self-purification of the substrate and thus very long filter holding times.

The sintered glass tubes made of recycled glass provide an optimal surface for

the settling of useful filter bacteria. Both aerobic and anaerobic micro organisms

can settle due to their unique three-dimensional structure consisting of pores and

open pored canals of suitable size. Only this allows siporax both breaking down

nitrite and reducing nitrate. The efficiency of siporax depends on, among others,

fish and plant stock, food amount as well as the size and flow rate of the filter

device.

How is siporax used?

siporax can be used in almost all filters, both in freshwater and in marine

aquariums. For a constantly optimal filtration with siporax, we recommend

mechanic prefiltration for removing dirt particles and floating matter.

Application:

Place siporax in the filter media bag and briefly rinse under flowing water. Then

place the filter media bag as the last step – in most cases at the very bottom – in

1 liter (1 US quart) of siporax is sufficient for 200 liters (53 US gal.) of aquarium

water.

Cleaning:

For an always optimal filtration, we recommend cleaning siporax only if the flow

rate through the filter has considerably decreased. Gently wash out the siporax

with some aquarium water to do so. siporax can be used again without loss of

performance immediately after.

Renewal:

Depending on mechanical strain (water flow, prefiltration), siporax will last for

years. It can be reused until the rings fall apart. siporax needs to be replaced

only then.
