About Jade Inheritance

Jade Inheritance was established in 2021. For Chinese, jade products are not merely an ornament, but it comprised love stories within a family. We pass our jade ornament to our loved ones, not only as valuable gifts, but also as priceless heirlooms that pass on for generations.

We are also collecting jade and family stories for our exhibition "Love and the people: the story of Jade in Chinese Families". With interview to different families especially between mothers and daughters, we could appreciate their family treasures as well as the strong bond and blessings between generations.

Description

As the old Chinese saying goes: "a spotless Jade, a cloudless day”. The saying is best to reflect the rarity of a flawless Fei Cui.

We all know that Fei Cui is a special and unique natural gift. Unlike all other gemstones, Fei Cui is a unique polycrystalline aggregate of different components including jadeite; omphacite, and kosmochlor.

This unique multi-polycrystalline structure gives Fei Cui the mesmerizing texture and unique multi-color hue. For the same reason, natural Fei Cui nearly always comes with minor cracks, lines, cotton wool, impurities.

Even though some flaws may affect the value of Fei Cui; understanding the unique structure of Fei Cui will also help us to fully appreciate the beauty of “jade”.

Indeed, in the eyes of gemstone experts, the natural traces on Fei Cui are, on the contrary, a key evidence that the Fei Cui is not being treated or processed.

We list herewith some common imperfections on Fei Cui:

1. Uneven texture

Fei Cui is formed in a long-term and complex geological environment. During the process, local dislocation occurs due to the extrusion of external force, resulting in an uneven structure that looks like a crack.

2. Crack

Cracks may be formed during the growth process between polycrystalline aggregates and may be visible to the naked eye. There will be a clear sense of obstruction when we scratch with our fingernails.

3. Impurities (color variations)

The dot-like black material invaded by non-jade minerals is variegated.

4. The "cotton" of jadeite

The cotton of jadeite often appears in jadeite with good transparency. It is a mass or flocculent white substance and people called it "cotton". The “cotton” is also a natural part of natural Fei Cui.

5. Waterline, color line

As Fei Cui is a polycrystalline aggregate, a waterline may form when there is a change of growth rate or direction of the gemstone. On the other hand, a color line is the growth of color ions along with the lattice gaps during the formation of the gemstone.

Knowing that Fei Cui is a natural gem, there are always “imperfections” when they are magnified under instruments. We only consider these imperfections as flaws when they are visible to the naked eye.
