The mission began in 1974 when a pioneering, animal-loving woman by the name of Sissy Harrington McGill decided her dogs deserved a nutritious, natural food that would keep them happy and healthy. She noticed that European Great Danes were living longer than their American counterparts and believed diet was the primary reason. Drawing inspiration from higher quality European pet food, Hund-N-Flocken, our flagship product and Sissy’s 1st recipe, was born. With real meat, whole grains, and nutrient dense superfoods, Hund-N-Flocken was unlike any product on the market and thus launched the holistic pet food category.
Sissy believed everyone’s pets deserved to be healthy and happy. Through her uncompromising approach to quality, nutrition, and extraordinary health for dogs and cats, Sissy single-handedly changed the face of the pet food industry.
Now, 45 years later, Solid Gold has expanded to meet every dog and cat’s unique nutritional needs, while remaining focused on delivering digestive health and overall well being throughout every pet’s lifetime. Sissy McGill is an owner and the cherished matriarch of the Solid Gold Family. She celebrated her 86th birthday in early 2019. She works five days a week at her retail store, Holistic Gold Nutrition Center in California, and is as active as she wants to be as our greatest solid Gold advocate!
