Due to the very dense material, Sage Culinary Surfaces are less than half the thickness of solid wood or plastic sheets.
Is sage made of wood fiber?
The Sage Surfaces & Sage Cook tool is made of READWoodfiberLaminate®, a panel material made of Woodfiber sheet, impregnated with a plastic resin and hot pressed. Since wood fibers can be obtained from wood that is too small for the wood industry, the impact on natural whole wood resources is small.

Sage Culinary Surfaces and Sage Cook tools last a long time! They will far exceed wood, bamboo, cork and plastic.
Pure and simple color?
Sage Culinary Surfaces are available in natural and slate; Sage Cook Tools has Natural. No dye is added to the natural color. In the new time, the surface is natural and light in color; with age and use, it will darken to rich, reddish brown. To produce the Slate color, dyes are added to the wood fibers early in the process. No dye is added to the resin.

Read raw materials within 30 miles of the Seattle location. Most of the waste generated during the manufacturing process is brought to the local composting plant with sawdust. The material used to cut the surface is too small to be used to make smaller products for use in other industries, so it is rarely ended in landfills.
