Founded in 1945, the House of Dopff & Irion is a major actor of the Alsace winegrowing area. It has been a finalist for the title of Best Winemaker at various international competitions and regularly wine awards abroad in San Francisco, London, Sydney and Brussels. Their wines are featured in a substantial amount of Michelin restaurants.
Located in Riquewihr - "the pearl of Alsace", Chateau de Riquewihr's vineyard is blessed with every possible natural attribute for successful vine cultivation. The experience of several generations has allowed them to determine which grape varieties are suited to which terroir.
The vineyard at Chateau de Riquewihr are divieded into four estates - Les Murailles, Les Sorcieres, Les Amandiers and Les Maquisards, each with its own particular grape variety and offers its locality. Over one third of the whole area is classed as Grand Cru -Schoenenbourg and Sporen. Their growth is carried out in a context of sustainable development. The qeust for quality has always been their priority and they are targeting ISO 9001 certification.
Situated on steep slopes and facing South, this Grand Cru overlooks the village of Riquewihr. Well regarded since the Middle Ages, the etymology of this terroir comes from the words “Schoenen berge” = beautiful mountain or “schöenenberg” = beautiful castle.
Bright, intense golden yellow colour. Refined, rich, complex notes of apricot, yellow and white fruit, refined spices such as curry and saffron, ginger and jammy zests, joined by a hint of incense.Ample and chiseled, harmonious, nice well melted palate, lively and spicy on the finish.
Food Pairing: It goes well for kitchen of the world such as duck-coriander nems, chicken-flavored ginger, fresh water fish in a creamy curry sauce, goes well with cheese: Swiss and blue veined cheese.
